  Astrophytum hybrid AS-CAP
(A. asterias  x A. capricorne  )

A beautiful  hybrid with woolly areoles and a few short spines.
 

Description: The superb feature of some of this hybrids is due to the intersection between the traits of the ancestors.  Many of them have inherited by A. capricorne raised ribs but spines are usually very short.  The flower are also very beautiful.
Remarks: Many Astrophytum hybrids have been developed involving A. asterias & A. capricorne and are now in cultivation.

Scientific name:  Astrophytum hybrid AS-CAP

Origin Garden origin (Nursery produced cultivar) A nice plant obtained by controlled pollination of  ♀ Astrophytum asterias x ♂ Astrophytum capricorne

Conservation status: Listed in CITES appendix 2.

Notes: Compare with the inverse hybrid CAP-AS which is similar but with (usually) longer spines.


A beautiful dichotomous old specimen.
